The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
