Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
