The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 [for] no human being has ever been left unguarded. 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
