The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
