The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
