We sent revelations to Moses telling him, "Travel with My servants during the night and strike a dry road across the sea (for them). Have no fear of being overtaken (by the Pharaoh) nor of anything else". 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 And Firon led astray his people and he did not guide (them) aright. 79 O ye Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a Covenant with you on the right side of Mount (Sinai), and We sent down to you Manna and quails: 80 Eat of the good things We have given you for sustenance, and be not inordinate with respect to them, lest My wrath should be due to you, and to whomsoever My wrath is due be shall perish indeed. 81 But I am most forgiving towards him who turns in repentance and believes and acts righteously and follows the right path." 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 He said: verily We have tempted thy people after thee, and the Samiri hath led them astray. 85 With great anger and sorrow, Moses returned to his nation. 'My nation' he said, 'did your Lord not make you a fine promise? Did the time of the covenant seem long to you? Or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should fall upon you so that you failed in your coming to my appointment' 86 They replied: 'We have not failed in our promise to you through our choosing. We were laden with fardels, even the ornaments of the nation, and threw them just as the Samaritan had thrown them (into the fire), 87 And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot." 88 What! Did they not see that it did not speak a word to them in return, and for them it could own neither harm nor benefit? 89
