The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
