Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
