The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
