The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
