The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
