Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
