The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
