He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
