The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We do not send down angels without reason, and if the angels descend they would not get any respite! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
