Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
