The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
