The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
