The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
