Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
