The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
