Light (Al-Noor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down and decreed its commands, and in which We have sent down clear verses, in order that you may ponder. 1 The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment. 2 The fornicator shall not marry any but a fornicatress or idolatress, and (as for) the fornicatress, none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolater; and it is forbidden to the believers. 3 And those who accuse honourable women but bring not four witnesses, scourge them (with) eighty stripes and never (afterward) accept their testimony - They indeed are evil-doers - 4 except that of those who afterwards repent and reform themselves; God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and do not have witnesses except their own statements – for such the testimony is that he bear the testimony four times by the name of Allah that he is truthful. 6 and the fifth time, that the curse of Allah shall be upon him, if he should be of the liars. 7 The wife shall receive no punishment, if she bears witness four times in the name of God that her husband has lied 8 On the fifth time she should say, "Let the curse of God be upon me if what he says is true." 9 If it were not for the bounty of Allah to you and His Mercy, and that Allah turns, and is the Wise, 10
