a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
