The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
