Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came from the chamber to his people, and suggested to them (by signs) to sing the praises of the Lord morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
