And remember Our bondman Ayyub (Job); when he cried out* to his Lord, “The devil has struck me with hardship and pain.” (After seven years of patience.) 41 [and thereupon was told:] "Strike [the ground] with thy foot: here is cool water to wash with and to drink!" 42 And We gave to him his family, and the like of them with them, as a mercy from us, and a reminder unto men possessed of minds; 43 We told him, "Take a handful of straw. Strike your wife with it to fulfill your oath." We found him to be patient. What an excellent servant he was. He was certainly most repenting. 44 AND CALL to mind Our servants Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, [all of them] endowed with inner strength and vision: 45 We gave them this pure distinction because of their continual remembrance of the Day of Judgment. 46 and, in Our sight they were indeed among the select, the truly good! 47 And make mention of Ishmael and Elisha and Dhu'l-Kifl. All are of the chosen. 48 This is a Reminder, and indeed for the cautious is a fine return, 49 Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them; 50 Therein they will recline; therein they will call for plenteous fruit and drink. 51 ۞ and wherein there shall be with them well-matched, bashful mates. 52 This is what you are promised for the day of reckoning. 53 This is surely Our provision never-ending. 54 All this (is for the God-fearing). But for the transgressors, an evil resort awaits them -- 55 Hell!- they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie on)!- 56 This, [then, for them] so let them taste it: burning despair and ice-cold darkness 57 and other sufferings of the kind. 58 [Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire." 59 They will say, "Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement." 60 They shall say: Our Lord! whoever prepared it first for us, add Thou to him a double chastisement in the fire. 61 And they will Say: what aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the evil ones? 62 Took we them so unjustly for a butt of mockery, or are they deluding our eyes? 63 All this is certainly true -- the inhabitants of the Fire will blame one another in this way. 64
