The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
