The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
