The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
