He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
