The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
