The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
