The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
