The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
