Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the clear Book, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
