The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
