A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
