And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or, do you have a clear authority? 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So you and your deities 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 we are they that give glory. 166 And there were those who said, 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
