The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and the day in splendour 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
