In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
