The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the mount 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and the sea that is full 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
