[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
