The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
