The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
