Do not the people who inherited the earth from the (earlier) inhabitants perceive that We could afflict them too for their sins if We pleased, and put seals on their hearts that they may not hear (the voice of truth)? 100 Such were the towns whose story We (thus) relate unto thee: There came indeed to them their messengers with clear (signs): But they would not believe what they had rejected before. Thus doth Allah seal up the hearts of those who reject faith. 101 And We did not find for most of them any covenant; but indeed, We found most of them defiantly disobedient. 102 Then after them, We sent Moosa with our signs to Firaun and his court members, but they did injustice to those signs; therefore see what sort of fate befell the mischievous! 103 Moses said: 'Pharaoh, I am a Messenger from the Lord of the Worlds, 104 so constituted that I cannot say anything about God but the truth. I have now come unto you with a clear evidence from your Sustainer: let, then, the children of Israel go with me!" 105 He answered: 'If you have come with a sign, show it to us if you are of the truthful' 106 Thereupon Moses threw his rod, and suddenly it was a veritable serpent. 107 And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white [with radiance] for the observers. 108
