The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
