The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
