The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
