Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
