The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
